FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything people usually ask before their first duel. If yours is not here, get in touch.
What is VoxDuel?
A real-time voice guessing duel. You see a visual or text prompt, say the answer out loud, and score on how fast and accurately you get it. Play party rounds on one phone, duel strangers online, or cast the whole thing to a TV.
How much does it cost?
VoxDuel is free to download and free to play.
Do I need an account?
Not to start. You can play local games as a guest straight away. A free account is only needed for online multiplayer and for saving stats across devices.
Is my voice recorded or sent to a server?
No. Speech recognition happens entirely on your device, and the audio is not uploaded or stored. Only the resulting game events — things like whether a round was won and how long it took — are sent, and only when you are playing online or contributing anonymous product analytics.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Answer recognition does, because it runs locally. You will need a connection for online multiplayer, downloading new category packs, and syncing your profile.
How many people can play?
One to ten players can share a single phone in Local Arena. Online supports up to eight players at once in simultaneous mode, or two players in Classic 1v1. Extra phones can also join a local game as microphones.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad running iOS 16.4 or later, and Android phones and tablets running Android 8.0 or later. A working microphone is required.
What languages does it support?
English at launch. More languages are on the roadmap.
Can I play it on my TV?
Yes. VoxDuel casts to Chromecast, to DIAL-compatible Samsung and LG smart TVs, and to Apple TV via AirPlay mirroring. The TV shows the board while players keep their phones as controllers.
Where do new categories come from?
Partly from players. Each week there is a community ballot of candidate themes, and you can suggest your own. Winning themes get built into a category pack, and everyone who voted that week gets it for free.
Is it suitable for kids?
The content is family-friendly, but VoxDuel is intended for players aged 13 and over because it includes accounts and online play. Younger players are welcome in local, pass-the-phone games alongside an adult.
